Michael Fleming writes in today’s Variety that Warner Bothers have signed up Insomnia and Memento cult film director Chris Nolan to take on the Batman legend.
With two well known hits already under his belt Chris feels that Batman is an appealing subject because of the fact that he grew up with the Batman legend and is now excited at the thought of contributing to the lore.
Warner Brothers, who released the previous four Batman movies, have been trying to revive the franchise over the years and there are a number of Bat projects in the pipeline up against the Nolan Batflick.
Catwoman, Batman versus Superman and the ever likely Batman: Year One are all at various stages of production so it looks likely that the once camp, now deep and brooding, Dark Knight will be entertaining a new generation of film fans.
Nolan’s Howard Hughes script now waiting the go ahead from Castle Rock, with Jim Carrey in the lead role, so timing for the Batmovie is unclear, as is whether Nolan will script it himself.
