Batman Begins – News and photos.

Batman Begins – directed by Christopher Nolan (Memento, Insomnia, The Following) is well under way with shoots currently being carried out in the UK – London (Excel Centre, Docklands, University College London), Mentmore in Buckinghamshire as well as East Tilbury (The Coalhouse Fort) and shooting due to move over to the United States in the Summer (Chicago) with Iceland already complete. Release is due for June 2005.

The official Batman Begins site has been up for a while now and we have some of the shots used on the site reproduced for information purpose below.

It looks like Nolan has done justice to the Batman legend – taking it away from the image developed over the previous films in the frnachise whilst keeping all the mystique and adding a few of the characters that will please fans and newcomers alike.

Two views of the new improved but more basic Batmobile – more of a rumble wagon but the future development of the vehicle can be seen. Note the jet engine style rear and the prowling dropped bonnet front. All designed to strike fear into the hearts of men.

Batman – Bale in costume, these pictures taken by David James for the official site. A nice clean design and the cape seems to be long enough to satisfy fans. More brooding and less armoured compared to the earlier film incarnations this costume will make Batman more of a human fighter rather than a tooled up superhero. Perfect for the Year One style storyline that Nolan and Goyer et al have developed.

Bale as Bruce Wayne – again, not everyones first choice but the decison made by Christopher Nolan seems to be the right one. Bale is settling into the dual role as well as can be expected and with a darker feel to the script and a few classic villains Bale’s range of acting and performace will be pushed to the limit by Nolan’s demands.

The script for Batman Begins has been posted on a number of websites, it appears to be close to the final working script but we have no link to it. Having seen a copy though, it does look good and the story is one that new and old Batfans will enjoy.
